In this post I talk about my experience using Medical Medium as a new foundation for living while healing grief.
Around Thanksgiving in 2017 my dad passed on from Leukemia. I say passed on because I don't believe we pass away and can be separate from each other. When he passed, I got two styes and my body was incredibly exhausted. Grief books I read mention that people who grieve need to nurse their bodies back to health similarly like people who are very sick or those who heal from post operation. I related to this because I noticed my body continuing to get sick and have low energy- my sinus infections were in full swing constantly.
Between loved one's cooked meals I ordered pizza, pasta, and anything that could be delivered. When I started getting the energy to cook for myself in spring I wanted to start putting thoughtful energy into my life again. Over the summer I made the firm decision for myself to find an eating style that would not only nourish me, but also give me a new zest and excitement for life. I wanted to live life to the fullest. That's when I started paying more attention to the Medical Medium posts that kept popping up on my Instagram. People were raving about new energy and healing specific ailments. I realized I had every symptom on the EBV list on Medical Medium's website. So I set out to give it a try. Below I share my experience with this eating style after doing the 28 Day Cleanse.
What's this new eating style? Is it another fad diet?
Basically if you do the 28 day cleanse you are eating raw plant based for 28 days to give your body the nutrients it needs to heal from any heavy metals and viruses. After that, there are some really yummy recipes that are cooked plant based meals you can incorporate.
The main foods I consumed almost daily were:
Wild blueberries
Bananas
Spinach
Cilantro
Garlic
Celery
Mango
Tomato
Dates
Oranges
All of these foods and more helped me start healing. I could feel it. By eating this way it allows your body to start cleaning out any heavy metals that have obstructed brain and body function. It also starts getting rid of different viruses that may be dormant and helps your body run more smoothly.
Also please note I stuck to this almost entirely, but a few times I had meat and a glass of wine but mainly eating raw plant based is what I stuck to.
Ok but what were the results? And how were you not hungry eating meat?!
I ate a TON of fruits and veg. Any time I needed a snack I grabbed a piece of fruit. Eating this way made me feel so satisfied, not like I was missing out on anything or always hungry. Yes, there were times I wanted to throw my salad against the wall and cry but I kept going in hopes of healing. I'm really glad I kept going because my brain fog started disappearing, my overall mood started to get more balanced, and my mystery stomach bloat disappeared. My sinus symptoms also went away.
I am still healing some fatigue symptoms and brain fog and am glad for what I was able to experience initially. When things got tough one of my friends mentioned one day, "Hey... you're almost half way done and then it's downhill from there!" When I got impatient, I remembered why I started and that helped me make it through.
So are you back to pizza and pasta? What's next?
I am still eating this way for the most part to experience long term effects and still have some time to heal. But now, when I want pasta I make zucchini noodles with red sauce on top. When I want pizza I make it from cauliflower and almond flour base with red sauce, spinach, tomatoes, and cashew sauce on top! Incredibly satisfying. When I want good food I eat it- just with a twist. But for the most part I'm eating raw foods to help me keep healing. Some days it's hard and I don't want to do it. But I look at my progress and other inspiring Instagram accounts to help me stay motivated. The foods I eat now satisfy me and my body feels like it's healing. I'll take that win-win.
